For those of you who haven’t heard yet, Sir Peter Strawson died on Monday. He was 86. Relative to the fields I work in these days (free will and agency generally), I can’t think of a more masterful philosophical essay than "Freedom and Resentment." Ditto on David’s remark. “Freedom and Resentment” has had a massive influence on writing about moral responsibility. Its full effect is yet, however, to be felt in fundamental moral theorizing about the nature of moral obligation. I have been writing some stuff to try to change that.
