The Center for Ethics & Policy at Carnegie Mellon University invites paper abstracts for an inaugural Workshop on Ethics & Policy to be hosted November 4-5, 2016 at the CMU campus in Pittsburgh, PA. We are pleased to welcome Richard Arneson as our keynote speaker.
In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the publication of Alan Wertheimer’s seminal work Exploitation, the theme for our inaugural workshop is “Exploitation and Coercion”. Submissions are welcome on any topic germane to the works of Dr. Wertheimer, with preference given to papers related to the relevance of exploitation and/or coercion to current issues in applied ethics and policy.
Submissions are due July 15, 2016. Submissions should be submitted via email to centerforethicsandpolicy@gmail.com. Emails should include the full name, contact information, and institutional affiliation of the author(s), as well as an abstract of 500-1000 words prepared for blind review in .docx or .pdf format. Abstracts will be reviewed by a program committee, and notifications will be made by August 15.
In support of a productive workshop, accepted papers will be circulated in advance of the conference so that all participants can read them ahead of time and the meeting can focus on critical feedback and discussion. Full papers must be submitted to the conference organizers no later than October 20 to be distributed. Depending on the interest of participants and the quality of papers presented, the CEP hopes to publish an edited volume comprised of papers from the workshop.
